Uruguay think they out Smarted the Socceroo's but have they?

The war for the Last spot in the World Cup is hotting up but have the Uruguan tactics back fired?

Heres there Tactic:

URUGUAY will push back the kick-off of the opening match of the World Cup qualifiers against Australia in an attempt to force the Socceroos to miss their flight to Sydney from Montevideo.

In yet another example of a rapidly deteriorating relationship between the ruling bodies of the two countries, Uruguayan sources confirmed yesterday that the kick-off for the November 12 match at the famous Estadio Centenario in the Uruguayan capital would be changed to 9pm, five hours later than it had been scheduled.

But has it back Fired?

Socceroos to face Uruguay again -- Chance for revenge

Well yesterday the last games where played in the South American qualifying series and the 5th Place finisher was decided when Uruguay beat Argentine 1-0. This means that the South American v Oceania qualifying series will be a rematch of the last one 4 years ago between Uruguay and Australia.

Last time Australia won the home leg 1-0 but went down 3-0 in a hostile stadium in Uruguay. I remember watching the match and the heart break as we all got ourselves up for that watch and really thought this was the Socceroos chance. This time the last leg will be played in Australia and again we are confident.

This also marks the last time this farce of Australia qualifying in this manner as Australia (possible the Oceania qualifier will qualify through Asia next time.

Here are some thoughts on this story from the main stream media:

The Socceroos will face their 2001 nemesis Uruguay next month for a spot at next year's World Cup finals.

Australia's own Andrew Bogut makes Preseason NBA Debut

7 Foot Tall, from Croatian/Australian/Melbourne Background made his NBA Basketball debut for the Milwaukee Bucks in the preseason with 9 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists in 27 mins against the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is a nice start for the 1st pick and hopefully a long and successful career.

Fuel prices - Australian Explaination for it

A lot of people can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.
Well there's a very simple answer.
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
We just didn't know we were getting low.
The reason for that is purely geographical.
Our oil is located in Bass Strait and off the coast of W. A.
BUT, All our dipsticks are in Canberra.

Survivor Tonight on Channel 9 in Australia!

For those reality TV junkies like myself, you would be interested to note that Channel 9 here in Australia has the first episode of the Latest Survivor (Survivor Guatemala) on tonight (Friday, 16th of September). Should be good (as always) especially the fact that they are having there "Toughest challenge ever" and then "two twists" in the first hour. Can't wait.

Maybe the best news of all is that they are having it extremely close to the US screenings meaning that we can take advantage of the excellent resources on the CBS Site (note, I am not 100% sure of this so will put a link up later).

Also interesting that it is up against the AFL first Preliminary final so don't be surprised if there is an Encore presentation!

Well this is a bit risky in my opinion. The English have played very well and haven't give the Aussies a chance to get on top but even with this there wins came by 2 runs (or 1 meter as I heard someone describe how much wider Lees last scoring shot needed to be for it to go for 4 and the Aussies to win) and 3 Wickets (very nervous chase). We all forget that the Aussies win came by about 200 odd runs! Yet the media are writing the Aussies off.

Beware the Wounded Aussie!

Come on Aussies, Come on Warney, Come On

By the time this post is read by anyone, the match might be over, but just wanted to put out my support for the buys.

GO AUSSIES GO

Warney just took the first wicket and is looking dangerous (I could be wrong but the last ball looked like a Wrong'en).

Update: England 36-2 and Warne just turned one a mile. If Lee can just get one, things could be interesting (more so). Beef Botham sounds worried!

Update 2: England 57-4. Two quick wickets and the two main stumbling blocks are at the wicket (Pietersen and Flintoff). Warne 3, Lee 1. Bell threw it away.

Update 3: Well just when I was getting ready for bed, Lee on, Pietersen OUT. But not many runs left and Flintoff still in. Will need a huge miricle from here. 103-5 26 runs to go.

Update 4: Even with me falling half a sleep on the couch, Freddy Flintoff is out and Australia holds a glimer of hope. Lord Nelson strikes again. 111 - 6 (112 -6, Damm No-ball). Go AUSSIES!!!!

4 to get 17 runs to play with. If the Aussies do, will be only the 4th team in history to win after Following on. The other 3 beat Australia!

Update 5: Another one! Jones goes for the big fit straight down the Fields throat. 116 - 7 or more importantly, Aussies need 3 wickets, England need 13. Surely the Aussies can't win from here but boy, its been a fair fight! (often these battles won with an edge through the slips for 4). Hope the Poms have there Brown undies!

24 Series 4 hits Australian TV sets tonight!

Tonight's the night. Jack's back!

24 is on Channel Seven tonight at around 8:30 for 2 hours and again on Wednesday for 2 hours. I can't wait. This will be the first series that I watch off the TV, and no I didn't download the torrents of the others, I bought the DVD Box sets after the end of the series.

The interesting thing about this series and the time it airs (which is much later then the first airing in the US) here is that it comes less then a week after the Train Bombings in London. Seven have decided to go to air (I am sure it would be costly to pull it at this late stage) even though some have said it might be a bad time.

For people like me that waited for the show to come to Seven, well done and enjoy.

Was listening to REM's performance from the recent Live 8 concert in London and they were singing Imitation of Life that has the following line:

you want the greatest thing the greatest thing since bread came sliced.

This made think, what was the Greatest thing Before sliced Bread? Also, when was bread first sliced? John Wilford suggests it was bread itself! Maybe. Maybe its a question that shouldn't be answered! On the second question, it seems 1912 was the time when Otto Frederick Rohwedder invented (or started to invent) a machine that sliced bread. Apparently it wasn't until he added the ability to slice and wrap bread in 1928 that the whole thing really took off. So perhaps the greatest thing since sliced bread is actually sliced and wrapped bread and the saying should be "The greatest thing since Sliced and wrapped bread". Watching Live 8 - They want your Awareness not Money

Sitting at home here on a Saturday (well in between folding and hanging up washing) and watching Live 8. Wow, what a powerful cause. Looking at the Live 8 site, seeing the performers giving up their time and seeing what the world is saying over at places like Technorati, it is amazing. Support the effort, go to the web site and sign in and let 8 of the most powerful men in the world (the Leader of the G8) know you support the efforts to stop needles deaths in Africa! Jacks Back! 24, Series 4 to show in July in OZ

Jacks back! Jack Bauer that is. CTU's top agent played by Kiefer Sutherland on the hit show, 24. I actually missed the first 3 series when they were on TV but I really wanted to see them. I got the first DVD series on Special for my birthday for my 29th Birthday. After that I was hooked. I have been waiting patiently for the release here in Australia and it seems the Seven Network will be showing it in July. As the first post states, I was considering moving to Blogger/Blogspot and unless something comes up in the next few days, the transition is in full swing! I have the categories beast slain and in fact the idea of seperate blogs for each Category sort of appeals to me. What I will be doing is blog the entries a number of sepearate blogs which are:

AFL
Progress
Podcasting
General
Family
The Malone Show (if this ever gets off the ground)
Photo's (this is so I can use the Hello service).

Apart from these, I will have a Main blog. How I am going to work it is write the entries in the individual blog for the topic that I am writing about (i.e. Something about Progress will go in the Progress blog, etc), you will be able to make comments in that blog. I will also post the title and a link to the blog entry on the Main Blog but not allow comments (as to not fragment the discussion). I am busy making feeds for each of the Blogs as well as coming up with a common look and feel. I will copy this across when finished.
